Booking in advance

How far is too far, to book in advance for a trip from USA to Europe in July?

I used to try to answer this question - but in this economy airline fares are even nuttier than usual - so it is very difficult to predict if they will go up or down. My advice is to shop for fares, when you see one you can live with and are certain of your dates, buy it. Them don't check back again to see if you could have gotten a lower fare - you will make yourself crazy that way.

I have seen some good deals for June and July already.

Going nuts trying to book decent fares for over the winter holidays to Florida - they're already going sky high. Anyone know from past experience if they'll drop anytime? Is there some kind of pattern as to when fares are adjusted? I need 14 round-trip tickets from different cities, so this is no joke!

I think it's way too early to find decent fares to FL for next winter. Even in "normal" times you wouldn't see sales this early, especially for high season. And the current economic turmoil certainly isn't helping.

More than 6 months in advance is too far in advance, imho. Start looking 7 months in advance.

Two winters ago I saw holiday fares drop in November.

I'm not a gambler by nature but I'll make myself wait for a while.
Thanks for the input.
