Book now or wait?

I saw a flight from boston to london-and a return flight from rome to boston in june on british air. Is that a good deal or should i wait for the summer fares? Do you think they will go down lower than 712.00?

Does this include taxes? You're talking about an open-jaw itinerary which is normally more expensive than arriving and departing from the same city. Also Rome is a bit more expensive to fly than London usually. If it does include taxes I would say take it.

yes, that includes all taxes. I wondering if there is going to be any summer sales coming up? That flight is now up to 780.00-seems to go back and forth every couple of days. Thanks for the advice!

I've been watching, too, and keping my fingers crossed that sale fares will be announced soon. Delta had a brief (one day) reduction on some fares last week but now they are back up to the range you mention. It's a roll of the dice, but I'm going to wait a couple weeks to see what is announced.

You missed Alitalia fare sale two weeks ago, Boston to Rome for 400. They sold out in two days needless to say, Buck

What strategy does anyone use for finding good fares? Check daily? Several sites? 2:01am?

In another couple weeks, all the spring sales will end, so I'm hoping not to still be waiting TOO much longer to see if any summer sales will be announced.

However, as long as I AM waiting, I'd love to know if I'm doing all I should be doing (random checks, several sites, several times a day). Any "proven" methods (or wild theories) would be very much appreciated.

Im still waiting too! I have been checking everyday-no luck so far. The fares are now up to 860.00. As soon as I see a sale I will post! Good luck. I also am traveling from Boston to Europe in June. Keep me posted!

You're talking about fares in the middle of summer--a very popular time to go to Europe. Unlikely there will be any sales better than this. Buy now.

Totally agree with RachelG. Your Boston-London fares have risen twice already, and you've already lost $160. Are you going to wait until it's even higher? June is a busy season for travelling to Europe, I doubt the fares will head the other direction.

I've been playing the waiting game and have seen fares rise rather than fall. Recent news that jet fuel prices continue at all time highs don't bode well for fare reductions. If your dates are extrememely flexible you could play the odds and hope for last minute reductions, but if you need to plan more stringently you may have to just bite the bullet - I did.

One strategy to help yourself is to set up all the automatic checkers that you can - Orbitz, Travelocity for two. Sign up for all the airline sales emails. Monitor this board and others. But - the fact is unless you are glued to the searches 24 hours a day, there's a possibility you will miss one. Nothing you can do about it, so just decide what amount of searching you are okay with that won't drive you crazy.

Also check out itasoftware.com and experiment with the different options. Consider if you would be willing to use different start and end locations if you were to save a lot of money.

I agree with you all. I am kicking myself in the as_! I should have jumped on the 712.00 fare. I saw a flight today for 806.00 to cdg for june. Im debating weather I want to go to Paris now or just go to nice then Italy.

janeygirl Mar 26th, 2004 06:07 AM

Well, I just decided to bite the bullet and book my flight for late June to CDG. Prices hadn't changed at all for several weeks (I'm limiting my flight search to American for my FF program) and potentially rising fuel costs made me go for it now. Besides, I wanted to get on the waitlist early for an upgraded seat (sure is a long time to keep my fingers crossed, though).

I'll continue keep an eye on prices and request a voucher if prices drop.
