Best way to handle disruption caused by major snow storm???
 

My family and I are scheduled to fly on Airtran from Baltimore to Cancun at 10.35 am Sunday. There is a major snowstorm brewing which could cause major disruptions to flights over the weekend. Our flight is the last Airtran flight scheduled out of BWI to Cancun on Sunday. My fear is that even if it's stopped snowing and our flight is scheduled to take off as planned on Sunday, there will be tons of people stranded from Saturday's flights that were canceled. Is there anything we can do to make sure we don't get bumped from our flight, other than to be there 2 hours early? Any advice from you seasoned air travelers about how to survive this unfortunate weather event and get out of here for vacation would be much appreciated.

Revenue or FF passengers who are ticketed on the Sunday flights get priority over Sat passengers whose flights are cancelled, so you're ok there.

Checkin online 24hrs in advance, then the time you arrive at the airport doesn't matter, excepting that you'll need to drop off your bags at the counter.

A few good weather chants and some dancing can't hurt.

Umm... "Time you arrive at the airport doesn't matter" Well....

Just last week "bubba" came strolling up to the gate at 5 minutes before take off and was told "too bad" So make sure you arrive at the airport in PLENTY of time to arrive at the gate within the minumum time required by the airline so they don't give you seat away.

On most that's 30 minutes and blaming security, baggage check etc.. won't save you.

Remember that international baggage check can take longer and that if Saturday is a nightmare the LINES will be LONG on Sunday...

(And what does the "houses collapse" statement have to do with air travel?)
