at least from international airport point of view, every American airport I have been to is totally substandard, from the lack of seats at their fast food outlets so you have to take your stinking burger into the gate seating area to the selection of books - top 10 + mgmt books to the lack of selection in electronic store (last week in Miami i digital camcorder). Heathrow always has building going on and is a drag getting from place to place, but selection of shops and eating places still make me amazed that so many people say Schipol is the best which has a good selection of tulip bulbs. If I have 2 hrs in an airport, Heathrow and Singapore are still good choices. Dubai is OK but overrated with Kuala Lumpur being far more impressive from an internal decor point of view.

I guess you haven't been to the new Detroit airport? Totally cool and user friendly.

duh - get bent.<BR><BR>Nobody makes travel plans on an account of which airport is better, but many of us who check these posts are travelers and like to know what others think of certain airports. Many of us do have to spend time at them.<BR><BR>How'd you get misdirected to this post anyway? You're too good to be looking up useless airport info, so did you mistakenly type something?

I prefer Heathrow Airport in England and Detroit in the States.

Actually although many disagree, one of the best airports to connect in is Atlanta.....easy train connections between terminals and excellent food courts in many of the terminals. With the trains, not that much walking and I connect a lot through Atlants although many hate it.<BR><BR>OTOH just got back from a trip on America West which included a connection at Sky Harbouor (Goldwater??) in Phoenix. While the airport is not terribly old and dingy a la JFK, the walk for a connecting HP flight was absurd from the A concourse to the B concourse, considering each of the concourses is really 2 concourses and should just as easily be labeled with 2 letters. Had to go from first part of A concourse to secnd part of B concourse, in effect 4 courses apart. No train, just moving walkways and of course the arrival flight was at one end of the A and the departing flight was the far end of the B, must have taken 20 minutes all walking. If ever an airport needs a train between concourses.....

The old joke goes; when one dies and goes to heaven they must first pass through Atlanta's Hartsfield airport. Joking aside it is one of the best thought out designs for airports. It has 4 parallel runways - 2 for takeoffs and 2 for landings - no cross runways. The concourses are lined up in the middle of the runways so taxi time to/from gates is minimal. Concouses A,B,C &amp; E(International) are very spacious &amp; modern, lots of good food choices, stores and lounges. Train runs between concourses and to the terminal.<BR>Orlando is also a pleasant airport. Houston some how managed to get not one but two poor choices.<BR>Internationally - Schipol &amp; Capetowns International terminal (although rather small is excellent)<BR>Little Canaima Airport in Venezuela was a jewel. Has Jet service but really no airport at all. When the planes land they come and get you from your hotel or camp and take you right to the plane.

Logan Airport is by far the worst airport I have ever used. I live equal distance from T.F.Green in Providence and Logan in Boston but sadly have to use Logan more often. It continues to be under construction with no end in sight and never ever improved. Do what you can to avoid this disater.

THE SMALL, BUT PRACTICE MADRID, ESPANA

West Palm Beach (PBI) hands down. Right size, right service. For large airport, dDetroits midfield terminal is the best, try the Worldclub if you can.

Ah duh, I agree with Trav, the person with the fake email address, just like mine and others. the best airport is what he says as it is the only one I or Trav has/have been to in the last 30 years. One airport equals best in the eyes of most flyers.<BR>Yuk, Yuk!

Vancouver Canada - lovely, clean, efficient and entertaining - wish all were same. Arriving later in Toronto was like entering a third world zone - terrible. In my own country Heathrow can be a bit of a pain and not always organised but smaller Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle Airports better.

oh yeah - Orlando and Tampa are very nice and pleasant too.

Kuala Lumpur international Airport gets my vote.

Within the USA, John Wayne (Orange County) gets my vote...easy to get in and out of and immaculate! I can't remember any stand outs in Europe....all seem OK.

What about O'Hare?? I know it's big and there are lines, but you can get there easily from downtown Chicago via the El and there is lots to do while you wait for your flight. I mean, where else does Wolfgang Puck decide to open a restaurant?? CHICAGO!! There's also Chili's, Starbucks, and other places to dine for all types of people. I used to live there and loved flying in and out-so easy! Now I live in NYC and the airports here are horrible. Terribly congested and take too long to get to/from even though they really aren't far from Midtown.

I'll put in a good word for Copenhagen. It's terrifically convenient, situated right on the major rail line for both commuter and longer distance travel, and while the airport itself isn't large enough to be anything special, the hotel connected to both rail station and airport (all are essentially connected to the same lobby) is a wonderful airport.
