BA's Carry On Restrictions

Does anyone know how strict BA is on carry-on's. I just purchased a bag that is 21 x 10 x 13. BA's website states maximum 22 x 16 x 8. The dimensions are different but all total mine come in at a little less. I will be flying from Chicago O'Hare to Rome and connecting in London. I would hate to drag an extra piece of luggage along if they end up having to check it anyway. Thanks so much for your replies.

I do not know about the dimensions, but we have flown with BA and they were very strict with the weight restriction. I believe it is 13 pounds, not sure though. It is very light and our small carryons had to be checked only because of weight though.

BA is strict on weight: not an ounce over 13 pounds. Now we just check in our two Travel Pro 22"s with wheels as we just couldn't keep it under 13 pounds and still carry 2 or 3 guide books and the noise machine.

BA is known to be pretty strict. I flew them last summer, connecting in London to Rome. I had no problem boarding in Calif., but while waiting for my connecting flight I saw an official going round the lounge checking the heft of various passengers' bags. Fortunately my carry on was small so she didn't lift it, because if she had, I would have been in trouble as it was definitely heavier than the limit.

Of the 4 legs of my journey, the only time I saw this happen was London-Rome. But if your bag is close to the maximum size, you may have a problem with the weight. There really isn't any way to know in advance. You might, however, call and ask them about the slight difference in the measurements. Sometimes the dimension matters because it won't fit in the overhead or under the seat.

Thanks for your replies. I think I might leave that bag at home and just carry on a small tote bag. Thanks!
