Discounted business class are bookable with seat assignments on BA. Overbooking happens all the time on all airlines and it has nothing to do with booking at the last minute. At least BA informed the person in advance of the changes; usually getting bumped off flights happens at the airport. My experience in the US is that you are not informed of sched changes or cancellations at all, despite informing the airline of email and phone numbers.

I should have read more closely, I didn't realize this was only a 20 minute time difference.

If BA allowed everyone to pick their seats in business class this could not have happened as the seating chart would have clearly indicated that the BC is full. As we know, not everyone can choose a seat when they book business class.
My point was - how did they chose whom to move in that situation. Why move a passenger who already has a seat and a boarding pass and not someone who doesn't have either one yet.
I gave you my speculation as to how and why they did what they did (without losing the plot as I compared Cunard to BA).
I am ALWAYS informed of schedule changes ahead of time (by AA)- maybe I am just lucky.
Also, in US they will compensate you if the flight is overbooked and they have to bump you onto another flight, unless the original flight is cancelled. This was not the case for OP - her flight was not cancelled nor was she compensated.

Sometimes it's a domino thing - someone appears at the last minute paying full fare in first class. Then BA elites who have upgraded into first using miles are bumped back down to business. Business pax (even some who've paid for their tickets) are pushed back into World Traveller Plus, WT+ pax back into steerage, and so on.

The OP was fortunate that BA had space on the second flight in their selected cabin - it could have been much worse. See for example the following tale of woe (with an okay ending) posted on Flyertalk - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=868617

Interesting reading, Gardyloo.
I wonder just how much of a coincidence it is that it also involved BA?
I am booked on BA CW LHR-JNB and return DEL-LHR (for miles). I wonder what surprises they will have for me as I am only a lowly AA Gold?

All this makes me very thankful that our only BA flights will be between Heathrow and Nice.
