Atlanta Airport experts...need your input..

My flight from the USVI get into Atlanta airport at 9:06pm and my connecting flight leaves out at 9:46pm (Atlanta to Albany,NY).
Am I going to be able to make that short a connection time? Will the gates be close together coming in from St Thomas?
Thanks for the help,
Debbie

I was just looking at Atlanta's Terminal layout. To get from the gate that I arrive at from St Thomas and go to the gate for my connecting flight in 40 minutes is going to be very close!
I do not want to miss my flight from Atlanta to Albany,NY!! If the gate is in the same terminal I'll probably be OK but if I have to walk any distance (or in this case RUN) I might not make my connecting flight home....
What should I do? Any help would be appreciated!

OK My flight arrives Gate A17 and my connecting Flight leaves out of Gate A34.
Is it possible to make this in 40 minutes or less??

It looks like you will be flying to ALB next morning. We had 1hour and 25 minutes and did it make it. What about if your first flight from St. Thomas is going to arrive a few minutes late?

Who knows - my son just had a 40 minute connection time in Atlanta (same terminal) Friday afternoon and was fine - even grabbed some food. But no way to predict if flight will be delayed.

I checked the Flight yesterday from St Thomas to Atlanta and it was 20 minutes late! I'll never make it to my connecting gate if the flight does not arrive Atlanta on-time!!
Can anyone suggest a hotel with shuttle service that's super close to Atlanta Airport that I can book just in case??
Thanks,Debbie

If you are on a connecting flight (same airline/alliance, same ticket) and you miss your flight because of the airline's fault (mechanical, air traffic, etc. but NOT weather, acts of God, etc) the airline is responsible for you. If you are going to have a significant delay (6 hrs or more), they must provide meals and a 3-minute phone call. If your delay is overnight, they must provide a hotel. Alternatively, you can also ask that they put you on another airline's flight leaving for Albany that evening (signing your ticket to another airline).

That late in the day, you'll not find other airlines to get you from Atlanta to Albany.

If you miss your connection, and the reason for the delay is not mechanical, then you'll need to pay for your own hotel. DL probably have some coupons or deals with nearby hotels for good rates, but you'll need to pay.

If you must get to Albany that day, book the earlier flight out of St. Thomas.

Otherwise, stop worrying. Be prepared for that possbility, but stop obsessing about it. Often you can make it, sometimes you can't.

Also, gate numbers change all the time. I assume you're flying today (Sunday, 3/13). Make sure you check the departing gate number when you get off the first flight. I will bet $2 it's not A34 by this evening.

Thank you for your responses. Yes,that flight on Delta at 9:46pm is the last flight out of Atlanta to Albany,NY...
I wasn't 'obsessing' just 'preparing' for the possibility that I'll have to get a hotel for the night. Since I'm a single woman travelling alone I don't like surprises!
Thanks again,
Debbie

Also, since the earlier flights out of STT leaves less than 2 hours earlier, at 4:10pm, you may want to get to the airport early and standby on that one. Call Delta to see if there are empty seats on the earlier flight or not to get an idea of your chance. That way, you'll have a comfortable 2 hour connection at ATL.

rkkwan,Thank you for the suggestion.I'll call them right now.

Debbie-gate 17 to 34 is doable in 40 minutes easily but if you are really in a time crunch -ask the agent to stop the motor cart for you to get down to the other gate.I believe that gates 18 and 19 are the start of each wing in the A concourse there-34 is the "end of one" so don't stop to snack at the food court in the center.........just kidding!

STT-ATL arrives just 4 minutes late tonite. ATL-ALB leaves 4 minutes early. Debbie should have made it with no problem.
