Arrival at SFO

I will arrive in San Francisco on United flight 870 from Sydney and depart for Houston on United 1716 on a Tuesday. Will 2 hours be enough time to clear immigration and customs and re-check my suitcase?? Thanks for any help.

Who knows. Should be OK but queues at immigration can be very long - especially if several jumbos from Asia and the Pacific land around the same time, and there is always the chance your flight is late arriving.

You really don't need to 're-check' your bag. After Customs, you simply drop the bag in the designated area. It will have been checked through to Houston even though you need to collect it at SFO.

If this is booked as one ticket you are protected if you miss your connection and United will put you on a later flight to Houston.

I love coming back to USA through SFO 1000% better than LAX. I am usually out the door in .30-.45 min. As stated above you can recheck after customs and move on to the next plane which by the way United is at the very end of the domestic terminals.
Here is link to SFO airport map.http://www.flysfo.com/maps/
there is a train you can take to the United terminal its the last orange one.

Thanks! I think that will be doable in 2 hours. ☺️

If you are non US citizen then 2 hours is unlikely to be enough time.

since the OP lives in Corpus Christi - my guess is that won't be an issue . . .

FYI. My arrival at SFO was the fastest entry I have ever made into the US--short lines and efficient personnel!

SFO immigration was the best I have experienced arriving in the U.S.. Once the US citizens were clear all those officers opened up to the rest of us. Friendly, and efficient. Obviously clearing a 747full of people took some time but the line kept moving and we were through in an hour. The U.S. citizens were clear in under 30 minutes.

SFO can be very good or very bad depending on how many international flights arrive at a similar time. One way to greatly speed up your way through customs and immigration, in the event there are long lines, is to join the Global Entry program.

If the travel was purchased on 1 ticket and you miss your connection to Houston, United will put you on the next available flight. There are quite a few United flights from SFO to IAH each day - looks like there are 4 more direct flights after yours on Tuesdays.

The flight is over and done with. Jane came back to report her experience.
