are pencils allowed?
I'm just double-checking. Are we allowed to bring pencils onboard? I'm flying to NY tomorrow, and I'll have a puzzle book with me. I prefer to use pencils, but the point is rather sharp. I know you're not supposed to bring anything sharp onboard, so I don't know if Security will let me take them with me. That's why I'm asking.

Then I have a question, if no pencils are allowed. There is a special page in back of my Sudoku book that;s made for dry-erase markers...(a completely blank Sudoku puzzle). Would these be acceptable? I would think so. I'll still bring the pencils just in case I get lucky. I would have to copy the numbers of the puzzle I want to do in one color marker, and then switch to another color to do the game. That would be a pain, but I'd see no other way to do it.

I think J62 was joking with you cmm! I think [s]he meant that a Suduko puzzle must be worked in ink to be a real challenge; not that pencils aren't allowed on plane. If I got it; J62 thinks pencils shouldn't be used on puzzle no matter where you work on it. Many think the same thing about a crossword puzzle.
Take your pencils, no one will bother you about them.
