Are high heeled shoes allowed in carry-on bags?

I have these very expensive, 4 inch heels that could put someone's eye out. I'd like to bring them in my carry-on bag because I'd hate to lose them in case the check-through baggage is lost. Will the security people merely roll their eyes at me when they see them or will they force me to check them?

They will neither roll their eyes nor will they ask you to check them - they do not care about shoes in your carry-on.

It really does depend on what colour they are.

How accurate can you throw them?

My fingers could put somebody's eyes out, or so my mother told me, but they are allowed on board.

Just how big are your feet?

wear them on board... be sure to wear the short short skirt that goes with it ;-)
