August 14 airfares

What is the significance of August 14, 2009 as concerns summer airfare?

My guess is that all the airlines know the OP want to fly on 8/14, so they double fares on that day.

Isn't that when WN releases their Q4 schedule?

But the OP says "as concerns summer airfare".

Oh, I know about August 14. That's the 21st anniversary of my arrival in the US for college. Gosh, I feel so old.

well if you're going to italy and leaving the us on the 14th then you arrive on the 15th and it's a national holiday... but the OP didn't leave a lot to go on...

"OP" = "Old Person"?
You rapscallions and whipper-snappers! You've severed my grip on the final vestige of dignity!
My ignorance unstaunched, I become a broken figure, obliged to fork out the extra dinarii to wander West in late August (rather than early August).

OP = original post or poster. And, the 14th is three days before my birthday. Miles added to my DL account would be a nice present

August 14 is a happy day for me, at least it was in 1987. That's the day when I broke up with a major LOSER, and subsequently I met Mr. P_M.

It's also the day I began my Swiss/French hiking trip in 2004.

So August 14 is a very good day for travel, even for OP's like you.

Last Summer, My wife and I celebrated her 40th b'day with a Swiss/French day-hiking trip. That was a nice, nice b'day party.

To the OP

Have you done a "flexible dates" search on your chosen airline website? Are you sure it's just the one date, or is it all days within a week or so of the 14th? Just wondering. Certain days of the week are costlier for flying, I do know that.
