Any clue when CDC will drop COVID test for returning US citizens?

BACKGROUND: small group of US citizens planning trip to Netherlands, Belgium and Germany in late Spring 2022. Returning to Detroit from Frankfurt. Although we are all fully vax'ed, we will have to cancel trip (for the 3rd time) if the US government does not see fit to drop requirement for 72 hour COVID testing for all passengers flying to the USA. For example, one of our group has dog breeding business and would be hard pressed to find dog sitters if faced with 2 week German quarantine. I know better than to look for a date but what "clues" should we be looking for - example new resurrange, significant drop in new cases, etc. etc. I think we will have to cancel if no positive resolution after February or March. Safety first but getting cabin fever. Fortunately, we are all COVID free.

We are of a similar mind as we don't want to get stuck somewhere and have to cover 2 more weeks of dog sitting. I don't see how anyone can predict when things will change and this is why our international travel plans are on an indefinite hold. There is much to see in the US and we have enjoyed taking advantage of what our country has to offer.

With Omicron they shortened the period before you must have a test result from 3 days before departure to 1 day.

Now airline industry group and other travel industry lobbyists are asking Biden administration to remove the testing requirement, maybe at least for vaccinated and boosted.

This wave has peaked but it may take another month before new cases drop to where they were before Omicron and maybe before Delta.

I wouldn't count on the testing requirement being removed soon.
