Another Heathrow Problem
Yesterday, we flew out of Heathrow, Terminal 2 (the Star Alliance terminal).
Believe it or not, there is no air condition of the whole terminal building. It was just a normal summer day in England, and inside temperatures were like in a greenhouse in Southern Florida in July. The woman at the security check was sweating so heavily that she kept on comforting her (considerable) breast with a water-bottle from the fridge and did not care about the beeping metal detector. It was hot everywhere: in the waiting areas, in the shops, in the restaurants... After spending three hours in the heat, we were completely soaked. It is amazing to see the A380 of Singapore Airlines at the gate and otherwise it is like a place in the third world. BTW, as Heathrow has reached capacity limits, expect to wait a considerable time on the tarmac because your aircraft gets permission to take off. In future, I will try to avoid Heathrow if possible. |
Eh?
The main Star Alliance terminal is T1. Singapore uses T3. T2's due to close at the end of this year anyway. Are you sure you were in London? SQ DOES use T2 at Changi. |
Yesterday, we flew with Lufthansa from T2, gate 12. 10 days ago, we had flewn into T2. And in two weeks, our son will leave again from T2.
The A380 of Singapore Airlines docked also at T2, three or four gates next to our plane. If you do not believe, check http://www.heathrowairport.com However, I am glad to hear that T2 will be closed. |

I give up.
We didn't fly out of T2. The Lufthansa waiting lounge was in the palm house in Kew Gardens (which explains the temperature). The plane started from the main footpath beteen the palm house and the pagoda. The footpath was, however, not long enough for the A380. It was severly damaged when it touched the pagoda during take-off and eventually it crashed on a pier in Weston-super-mare. |
Good one traveller1959! Why can't people believe you were in T2? You were there, they weren't.

alanRow,
check again, Lufthansa uses T2 along with Swiss, Austrian Airlines and few other ones..... I agree with the OP. Heathrow is the pits. The only exception is T5, the new BA terminal. The rest should be demolished and they should start from scratch. |
BUT not Singapore - let alone with an A380 - which was what my reply was to
|
I also thought Singapore's new A380 were flying out of the new Pier 6 that is part of Terminal 3. Lufthansa does fly out of Terminal 2.
