And Now its United's Turn

From USA Today news article:
In a move that appears to have fired up many of the airline's frequent fliers, United will "become the first U.S. carrier to stop serving free meals in the coach cabin of some overseas flights," Bloomberg News writes. Now, starting Oct. 1, coach-class passengers flying on United flights between Washington Dulles and Europe will be offered only buy-on-board meal options.
the airline is also dropping complimentary meals in domestic business class, effective Oct. 1, except for premium transcontinental flights (p.s. service) from San Francisco and Los Angeles to New York. And it's expanding the BOB, or buy-on-board, food offerings. Oh, and the BOB prices are going up, also Oct. 1," the paper writes.

Anyone who flies United is getting their "just desserts" (pun).
I would rather walk or swimm than fly United (a quote from FT). Maybe they'll finally become a post script, like TWA and others before them.

One question about Ual's newest policy of charging for overseas meals. Which currency do the plan to use?

Will I be able to change my Euros on board or vice versa?

Note this is only one-way on the flights leaving from Dulles, so most United flyers to/from Europe will not be affected.

I read that United is likely to go to a credit-card only system.

But until then, I think you'll have to pay in dollars. When flying back from Mexico City, the purser announced you could only pay in dollars for the food.

I thought international flights were the "big money" for these airlines. Sounds like this is another "dumb" idea.
