Ambien, good or evil

There was a good discussion of the merits of Ambien or similar helping folks on long distance flights. It has just disapeared. Is this a forbidden subject also, Fodors censors????

The Ambien discusssion I saw was actually on the Europe Forum. Go to "Europe" and type in Ambien in the search box. When I originally saw it, I thought it should be on the airline forum. It's still there so there is no censor in this case.
Ps: I am a doctor and I take Ambien on long overnight flights. But you must wait at least two hours after eating a meal with a high fat content or it will not be absorbed properly. I found that out the hard way!

I am an MD also. There is less absorption with food, but there is absorption. To wait for 2 hours after a meal when you are on a plane and want to sleep right away may be difficult for some. It may be a reasonable compromise to eat a smaller amount, wait 30 minutes, take the Ambien, and see how this works for you. It probably will.

You may have to choose between eating and sleeping.

I find 1/3 of an Ambien is all I need. Get some food prior to boarding, take pill when you're aiborne and go to sleep. Don't worry with airline's routine - they are willing to let you sleep if you just ask!

Dan: I fully agree with all you said: eat a low fat meal and there will be no problem even if you take the Ambien right after eating.

Any thought about taking an aspirin before the flight?
