Elise:

Well, what I guess you're really saying is that the ends justify the means . . .

Sorry, but in the case you're referring to, I VEHEMENTLY disagree. This was not a case of someone who had been "abused" by Continental. Rather, it was the case of someone who:

1) Neither he, his wife, or the other family members travelling with them seemed too interested in acting like responsible adults. Instead, they apparently acted like most parents do these days by letting their child run all over the place (and subsequently down a jetway -- which is supposed to be a SECURE area). You're right -- parents shouldn't be responsible for their children . . . ;

2) Resorted to destructive physical violence to solve a situation, resulting in the permanent disability of the airline employee. There were NUMEROUS witnesses who said that the man who attacked the agent GROSSLY overreacted to the situation; the defense could only muster the testimony of one person ( a career politician). And after seeing interviews with some of the jurors, the guy who attacked the agent should be thanking his lucky stars for dumb juries . . . As far as I am concerned, that guy should have had the book thrown at him.

Let me say at this point that I am not associated with any airline, and God knows, I have experienced my share of delays, cancellations, lost luggage, etc. I also absolutely agree that a passenger's bill of rights would be a positive step in the right direction. But Elise, I must wonder if you have ever worked in a customer service position? I suspect not, because I think that you might have a bit more compassion for airline personnel. Not all of them are professional, but the vast majority are, and I wouldn't take their job for ANY amount of money! Mabye you should try working as a gate agent for a couple of months? Methinks you would have a RADICALLY different opinion than the one you're currently spouting?

But attacking airline employees is NOT ACCEPTABLE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Then again, I thought we were a supposedly civilized nation that lived by the rule of law . Guess Elise feels otherwise . . .
