Airplane Ticket Cost from SFO to Europe

After watching the prices flucuate for the past few weeks, I saw that prices from San Francisco to Rome was $560 round trip. I bought them and then decided I wanted to extend my time by an extra day. So I called Delta, cancelled it, and WHILE was on the website to book the new flight, the price magically changed by an additional $100! I decided to wait it out, but the prices went higher instead of lower. I am thinking of just booking it regardless, but wanted some opinions...

$700 round trip...a decent deal anyway or overpriced? I don't normally look at prices to Europe, so I am not sure. I just want to make sure it's nothing too outrageous. If it doesn't work out, I'll just head over to Hawaii.

In... August? February?

Hopefully it's not on an Alitalia codeshare. Is it?

Ooops, I should have added for when this would be. It would be this September and it's Delta (or just about any of the ones out there).

Obviously, no one can predict future fares, and there's always the risk you could book a fare and the price will go down later. Still, I'd grab this one. $700, west coast to Rome, sounds like a good buy to me. ($560 sounds like it was a real steal.)

My approach to these things is to book a flight at a fare I'm comfortable with (or that I have to accept) and then be done with it. I don't torture myself by continuing to look after I've made my purchase. :)

I decided to finally book the flight. Turns out that one of the airlines (Canada Air) was priced at $686 and the others were around $740. This is with my changed dates of flying out on a Sunday and returning on Friday (since Fridays through Sunday airline prices are higher). Signed up for their rewards program thing and got $30 nicked off the price, so $655 plus my two extended days like I wanted. I am happy. :)

That sounds like a great deal. Congratulations.

Now, don't keep looking at fares. You'll only torment yourself. ;)

I know I know. I promised myself I won't look at the fares anymore!
