It's often true. I'm not sure about every single case. Leisure travelers will usually try to plan their vacations so they can leave on a weekend and return on a weekend. Business travel often peaks on Mondays and Fridays. So you have Tuesday and Wednesday in the middle of the week that are often lighter travel days. When an airline has a fare sale, Tuesday and Wednesday will often have the cheapest fares.
That's a lot of qualifying with "often" and "usually."

I just read something the other day that the weekend is the best time to buy airline tickets!
I know that for us, the best days to travel are Tuesdays and Thursdays because we usually try to get an upgrade to Biz Class and fewer people supposedly fly on these days.

Yes, and if you put a tooth under your pillow you'll get a dime quarter ten dollar bill.

But go ahead, stay up late on Tuesday night and look for deals right after midnight*.

I have noticed better fares when doing an early Wednesday a.m. search, but not consistently. I've also seen costs go up over night and have kicked myself for not hitting "purchase" when I saw a fare I could live with!
Mid-week is typically the best time to FLY however. If you compare fares, you'll see that it usually saves a bit of $$ to fly on Tues/Wed/Thurs as opposed to flying on the weekend.

Thanks. I was asking if it was better to buy tickets on certain days than others. AND it does seem like better prices on some airlines when flying on Tues-Thurs. I am looking at flying from Costa Rica to San Diego for a wedding in Nov. We don't leave the country too often.
