and your point is?

Actually, I booked a round trip ticket to Tokyo for May 9 of this year. I can't decide what to do. Most airlines are letting one reschedule the days if you are leaving before April 12. I will be spending my time between Tokyo and south. The major damage is north of Tokyo.

www.kayak.com/buzz best deals in/out in May.

Might look at LAX KIX(Osaka) for better deals

less crowds uncertainty.

insuremytrip.com especially wise right there right now.

Could you even get insurance for a trip to Japan right now?

wally34949 Mar 18th, 2011 07:51 AM

Perhaps Singapore will allow more changes in the next month if things don't get better in Japan. I sent E-mails to five hostels the day of the quake and had responses from all five within 24 hours. Guess I'm committed.

You might want to join the thread about Japan travel concerns on the Asia forum.

If you are able to get a refund then you might want to try Asiana for flights that connect to Hiroshima or Fukuoka or other destinations in central, western or southern Japan.

Did SQ reschedule your flight(s)? Can you, if you wanted to, get a refund for a schedule change?

There is a News Alert at the SQ website that discusses changes to flights to Japan.

Thanks. I will look into it. My trip with the www.greentortoise.com was just cancelled to Baja California due to low numbers. Now I'm stuck with a ticket to California from Florida from March 30 to April 12. Does anyone know a cheap airfare from San Francisco during those days. I noticed South Korea was cheap but I don't do cold weather well. Hawaii is too high and I was just there.

At least the tickets were cheap--Less than $200 round-trip. I could always find some Two Buck Chuck's.

You might check with this group....

I did a trip with them several years ago in Baja and it was wonderful. Hoping to do another trip at somepoint in the future. They might have some openings for the times you want.

You can fly SQ nonstop from SFO to Hong Kong (and then on to Singapore). There also is the SQ nonstop, LAX-SIN. Bali would be a good choice (maybe use miles for SIN-DPS-SIN if the fare is high.

Looks like I'm going back to Hawaii. I found a United ticket from San Jose to Kona for $245 (one-way). I'm returning from Kauai to San Jose for $271. By the time I get back to Florida I will be Silver Elite again. I lost that at the end of February.

Question: How many miles does it take to upgrade from coach to First going from California to Hawaii on United (each way) and will they take Continental miles?

wally34949 Mar 21st, 2011 07:05 AM

Looks like Singapore Airlines has switched from their Airbus A380 to a Boeing 777ER for their flight from LAX to Tokyo.

Here's UA upgrade chart for travel prior to 6/15. For discount fares to Hawaii, it's 17,500mi and $150-$300 copay each way to upgrade.

You can freely transfer between CO and UA accounts now, and that's probably the easiest way to upgrade on UA using CO miles. Get a Mileage Plus account if you don't have one already:
