Airline lounges in US - V - Europe

Can anyone tell me, why is it, that when I use an airline lounge in Europe, I can help myslef to nice food, snacks, newspapers, magazines, alcohol and more...and yet when I use Airline lounges in the USA...I get nice big rooms with crappy snacks, little to read, free non alcoholoic drinks and have to pay for all other drinks. Is it that the US airlines are penny pinching to their customers in the USA, because if, for example you use a American Airlines lounge at London..you get European standards in it...just try and compare it with the companies lounges at New York JFK and others

Not sure which lounges you frequent in the US, but the Continental Presidents Clubs provide complimentary alcohol (except those few places where local law forbids it) as well as nonalcoholic drinks and diferent types of snacks appropriate to the time of day, including fresh fruit, cheese and crackers, salty snacks, muffins, bagels, cookies etc.
