Airline canceled flight and Rebooked

We are bkd OMA to IAD roundtrip
and IAD to JNB roundtrip through UA.
We needed to make 2 seperate res due to redeeming credit card miles.

I knew going in that if one res interfered with the other timewise that was my problem.

Well, that has happened 2times by Lufthansa. Twice they have canceled the flights we were bkd on and randomly rebooked us on other flights.

This last time there was a flight available that would have still gotten us into IAD in time to make our connection however Lufthansa wouldn't change the ticket because UA made the very first booking. UA can't change the flight because Lufthansa said our rate code was not available. It just seems that since this is all do to Lufthansa's flight changes, they could have out us on the workable flight.

The first time Lufthansa canceled the the flight from JNB, they rebooked us for the wrong return date! At first, they denied making the change and said I did it! That was a hassle to get straight but we finally did.

I guess I'm just venting but next year we're going on a road trip!

Awful. I'm always nervouse when I book 2 tixs separately due to different freq flier accts. I've been told that if you ask them to cross reference or put in the same PNR, that can be avoided. did you ask them to do that?

I made both reservations at the same time and asked that they reference each other.

Bummer indeed. Thanks for the sympathy.
