Air travel with cat

Ok, this might sound ridiculous, but there are good personal reasons for my question. My LA-living daughter rescued a cat that was seriously physically abused--she arranged to have its multiple fractures set, cared for the animal during its recovery, and now wants to bring it to us on the East Coast to live. She cannot take the time to drive round trip and will not ship it via air in a cargo hold. It is not small enough to fit in a tiny under-the-seat container. It seems the only option, then, would be trying to purchase a full fare seat for it to ride in its carrying case next to my daughter--if that is even possible. Aside from the observation that this seems completely lunatic, does anyone have some suggestions?

Hmm--that's definitely getting warm-- we're outside Philadelphia, so that would add a 4-5 hour r/t by car from Baltimore, the closest these folks fly. Thank you so much!

Anybody else with ideas?

I'd start calling the various airlines that fly the LA/Philadelphia route, especially if any are nonstop. They each have somewhat different policies about animals in the cabin. btw I don't think it seems 'lunatic' at all and don't blame her for not putting kitty in the cargo hold!

couple of ideas

• Check with any cat rescue agencies where you live - sometimes "underground railroad" type caravans can be arranged esp if she has already spent her own $$ caring for its injuries.

• Can she drive one way and fly the other? If she can book with any kind of notice it's likely cheaper than a one way for the cat at full fare.

Good luck!
