AF strike this weekend
Just heard about this and we're scheduled to fly to CDG tomorrow night. Cabin crews are striking for 3days so I guess they'll be grabbing anyone with a badge to work the flight since it's still on schedule.
|
There are people stuck at the airport right now in Paris because of the strike, so it's not going that well.
|
Do you know what, if any, is the responsiblity of Air France to lodge their passengers? It is one thing if you are at your home airport. It would break my budget to pay for hotels because of their strike.
|
I don't know about lodging but our flt is still scheduled to leave tonight from LAX. They are using Skyteam airlines to re-accomodate their passengers if you can get thru to an agent!
|
I think it is very common in the contract of carriage that labor activities, such as strikes, are treated the same as acts of God; in short, the airline does not have the lodging and feeding responsibilities if would have if the interruption was due to some event within the sole control of the airline.
Having said that, the contract of carriage is always subject to local law, so the provisions that may apply in one jurisdiction may not apply in another. Also, even without the legal liability, I think most airlines would make extraordinary efforts to accomodate passengers as a good will gesture, knowing that this can increase future business. |
There was a side effect of the strike on Saturday as the Eurostar train service was actually overbooked. I'd never been on a train where that happened.
It occurred on the Lille stop on the 17:59 train from Brussels to London yesterday. The train just sat at Lille until Eurostar staff were able to convince 10 people to give up their seats. No idea what they were offering. In Leisure Select, it's usually pretty quiet on that run. But yesterday, every seat was jammed and there were lots and lots of noisy kids. Was fortunate to have a solo seat (and a laptop and headphones to escape from the noise). Still, better than standard class which was a mob scene, esp. as many pax weren't traveling with just carryon size luggage. |
There's a flyertalk thread about what a mess CDG is and how AF is not doing much, or anything, to help their stranded passengers. I'm grateful this didn't happen after we were there since I was able to re-book our award seats on Delta for tomorrow.
