AA Flight times - SJU to DFW???

We are planning our trip to San Juan for next April and noticed a big difference in the flight times. Early this month we flew to San Juan from DFW took around 4 hrs. I see on the AA website it takes 6hrs to fly to DFW from SJU. Why the big diff in times?? I understand the jet stream is different on return flights sometimes it is just a 30 min diff, but two hours?? Anyone out there have the explanation? The eqipment both ways is 757.

Thanks,
SD

Time difference....

It's actually about 4.5 hour flight each way but you gain an hour from SJU and you lose an hour to SJU

The times quoted are local times... :-)

Have a great trip!

also, just a fun FYI...

When flying from Tokyo to Chicago you actually arrive in Chicago before you took off in Tokyo...:-D

NRT dep. 4pm day 1
ORD arr. 2pm day 1

Thank for your response but AA actually states flight time for the direct flight as 6hrs.

This is what I printed this AM:

AA1549 - 757 - SJU - DFW 4/15/10 - 8:40am arrives DFW 12:55pm 6hrs.

Unless my computer is going crazy! It also read the same a few days ago on my first search.

because Puerto Rico does not observe Daylight Savings time.

SD - I think the confusion is, as AAFF mentioned, take-offs and landings are in LOCAL time. So when the flight leaves DFW at 1:40 pm that's central time (or 2:40 eastern). You gain an hour flying east and land in SJU at 7:24 local time (eastern). So total flying time is 4 hr 44 min, not 5 hr 44min. Clear?

SDtravelers May 27th, 2009 12:18 PM

Just did a quick search again:
March 13 = 5.20hr
March 14 = 6.20 hr

Very strange! I don't understand what the time zones have to do with it isn't the actual flight time? So you are saying when you travel, the stated flight times take into consideration the time changes? The flight in reality is only 5.2hrs?

Maybe the plane stops in Miami?

rkkwan May 28th, 2009 12:35 AM

1. Flight time is more or less the same.

2. Airline websites have bugs.

dfr4848 May 28th, 2009 04:32 AM

SD - agree with rkkwan on your specific example. If you calculate the flight time using the times for take-off and landing on Mar 14, flight time is really 5.2 rather than 6.2.

I fly AA between DFW and SJU almost every month. The flight takes just under 5 hours in both directions.
