AA Carry On Question-INTL Flight
I got 2 different stories as to what you are allowed to bring on board. We are flying JFK to Barbados. On the AA website, it says we are allowed one carry on plus one personal item. When I spoke with someone on the phone at AA, they said one item only. No matter what.
For those of you who have flown recently, can we bring more than one thing on board?
I wanted to bring a pocketbook which is small... it would fit just my cell phone, wallet and flipflops. And then I was going to bring another bag that had 5 books in it. The 5 books are either softcover or not very big hardcover books. Both together could fit underneath the seat in front of me or overhead. But the fact that its two bags, will they not let me do that?
Sizewize, I am sure people are bringing one bag bigger than my two combined. And b/c of the way they are shaped I could not stuff one bag into the other bag.
If you have flown AA recently, what have you noticed about carry-on rules?
Thanks, in advance, for your replies!!

Flown them twice in the last 2 months. SFO - Rome and OAK - DFW. You can bring one carry on bag and one personel item (purse, computer bag, backpack).
I would trust their website and the current FAA guidance as most accurate. Seems these days customer service reps are as clueless as the rest of us.

The one bag is now a standard for European Union and it's for ALL airlines, not just AA, but anywhere else security and AA allows 2 bags. I'm on my way to Dublin right now and I'm allowed 2 bags but returning next week I will only be allowed 1 because of the EU rules.
Reporting from St.Louis AC on my way to Chicago and Dublin.

Patty,
You are correct. I just came back from London and a friend that works for Air Canada told me that. Apparently it's true for UK only at this time and EU will implement size only restrictions on carry ons in the future.
EU implemented the fluid restrictions only at this time.
Sorry for the misinformation.

Had several international flights on AA in the past few months and another scheduled for next week. I have had my carryon bag and computer bag on each flight with no concerns. Plan to do the same next Tuesday MIA-KIN. sam

I "try" to make sure Bag #1 has enough room to fit small purse/Bag #2 in case I need to shove it in there just to go through security or board, then take it out and have it at my seat once on the plane...
