Interesting news. I've read that DME is a far nicer airport than SVO, where most international flights arrive and depart. Is that true?

I believe that British, Malev and FinnAir already fly to DME. JL and CX will be switching soon so all their OneWorld pals will be flying in/out of DME.

Interesting pick for a new destination but I just read how the Russian economy is booming so who knows?

I was sure their next European destination would be Budapest once Malev joined OW. The rumor is that it will be Nice, France instead.

DME is a much better airport than SVO, with direct hourly train link into Moscow which costs pennies. There's been a huge amount of investment in DME. I've not experienced the lines at immigration at DME, it seems a smoother process. It's further out then SVO though.

Alot of European airlines switched to DME years back.

I think MOW is a pretty good addition to the network; anything that circumvents LHR is a blessing.

Nice I don't get however. Leisure market, bupkis in the way of onward partner connections, existing DL nonstop from JFK... while airports with good business traffic and better connections in the Mediterranean area go without OW nonstops from the US - MXP, or BCN for instance. Puzzling.

Perhaps you missed the announcements about BCN and MXP, but AA will start serving both cities from JFK in May, 2008.

No I remembered as soon as I posted that. Blame it on a brain cramp. D'oh. Please please Fodors, install an editing function?

I don't think those Russians will be too happy about paying $5 for vodka.

But those Russians going to Chicago may be happy about not having change planes at places like JFK or LHR.

OH - that is good news!! We may be looking at a Moscow posting - and while I am now a big StarAlliance customer - I sure would be interested in getting to the US without a stop in Europe!!
