I've been through this, too. I had to laugh when United called two months ago and told me they had a "minor" schedule change. Yeah, right. My original outbound non-stop flight now had a connecting stop in Denver. My 1.5 hour Denver lay-over on the way home turned into a 4 hr. 15 min. lay-over!! Uh, just would a "major" schedule change look like? To make it worse, they were FF tickets book with USAir miles. Last time this happened, a United agent changed the code so USAir could assign us new flights (not just ones with award seat availability, which was impossible). The whole ordeal took over one hour on the phone to work out.

This time, USAir themselves changed our flights, but to USAir ones - both non-stop. So we ended up getting better flights than what we originally book on United. What's ironic is that I booked these tickets on United back when everyone was predicting "USAir's eminent demise". I would have been safer booking USAir to begin with, but everything worked out OK.

Delta gave us a schedule change, too, for our flights to Montana next week. Now we have 2.5 layover coming home, and our 6:15 am flight is now 6:00am. Arg! Now we have to get up super early to wait 2.5 hours in Salt Lake.
