747 gates at PHX
Does anyone know where 747s normally park at Phoenix Sky Harbor? I know there aren't many 747s flying to or from the airport, but I also know that British Airways has at least one regular flight there. In the old, old days, there were one or more gates at Terminal 2 that could handle 747s. Which gates are used now?

I'm booked to fly BA to Pheonix in May. My itinerary says in and out of Terminal 4.

I don't remember any 747 gates at Terminal 2. When America West was flying 747's to Hawaii, they used Terminal 3.

Well, the very first 747s actually had their gates at Terminal 2 (there was no Terminal 3 or 4 at the time), right after the main lobby. Those were also the first gates to have jetways, I think. But that was obviously a long time ago.
I was looking at Terminal 4's parking from the air on Google and I couldn't identify any slots that looked big enough to handle a 747. Knowing that BA does indeed fly 747s into Phoenix, I thought maybe someone here might remember which gates were used. In the good old days, there were lots of 747s everywhere. Now airlines prefer to run lots of little aircraft instead of a smaller number of big aircraft, even though this wastes enormous amounts of fuel and causes serious traffic congestion in the air. |
The main airlines in T2 these days are United, Air Canada, Continental and (I think) Alaska. No 747s there...
This might give you a general idea...it looks like BA is in T4/B concourse, international gates B15-28: http://phoenix.gov/skyharborairport/...minal4_map.pdf |
Thanks for the pointer. Looks like at least B25 is a 747-compatible gate.
