50 Minute Connection in Munich

Hello,
I am flying from Washington D.C. to Rome with a connecting flight in Munich. Our plane lands in Munich at 8 a.m. and our connecting flight leaves at 8:50 a.m. We are flying to Munich via United and our connecting flight is via United but it says operated by Lufthansa. Is this going to be enough time to catch our connecting flight? I was looking around and it seems as if United and Lufthansa are both in terminal 2 so is all were going to have to do is run from one gate to the next in terminal 2?

It may be close, but doable - if arriving flight isn't late. Even then, it may work (assuming you're right about being in the same terminal). We've connected several times through MUN and not had a problem - although the last time we had less than 15 minutes due to late flight, but agent was waiting for us and escourted us to connecting flight (in different terminal). Luggage also made that connection. MUN is very modern and automated. Just don't dawdle and double check to make sure you're in the same terminal.

If our flights are in the same terminal, will we have to go through any security checkpoints or will we be able to go right from one gate to the other? Also, will we have to check in again in Munich or will I receive all my boarding passes in Washington D.C. for both flights?

You will need to go through immigration and then security at MUC, because Germany and Italy are both in the Schengen common travel area.

You should have your boarding pass already, and you don't need to pick up luggage.

There are plenty of MUC-FCO flights on LH. If you miss yours, they'll put you on the next one, so don't worry.

You're on United #902 departing at 5:49PM, not quite late enough for the late afternoon spring? thundestorms to have passed through northern Va. From MUC you take Lufthansa #3856 at 8:50AM. The next flight after that is at 10:45A, and then 1PM, 3:05PM, and a couple later, so you'll be ok.

In 98% of the cases, connecting time is sufficient. Immigration and customs in Europe are quick and easy.

And the worst thing which can happen is that you will have to take the next flight to Rome which leaves one or two hours later.
