Zanzibar in January Heat
Hi there! My husband and I will be traveling to Tanzania for a safari in January. We'll be heading to Zanzibar from January 21-28. We've booked 2 beach resorts during that time. One in Matemwe then another in Nungwi.
We're planning on spending 2 days in Stone Town, Zanzibar at the end of the trip. (January 26-28) We've been looking at the Emerson on Harumzi to treat ourselves for those last two nights, but I'm concerned that the rooms we're considering don't have A/C. Only fans - although they are high up and completely open to the outside and might get some breeze if there is breeze to be had! There isn't a pool to jump into after a long day of exploring. The reviews look amazing! I'm wondering if anyone has ever stayed there in January and could tell me if it is worth the discomfort of no A/C that time of year? We prefer not to stay in an uber-modern hotel and like the idea of an adventure. But will we be too uncomfortably hot to enjoy it in January?
We're also considering Maru Maru as they have A/C and a pool.
Does anyone have any other recommendations? Like I said, we're definitely looking to stay someplace unusual that won't completely break the bank.
Thanks for any advice you can give!

Zanzibar is very humid so with an average high of 85F/29C in January and a low of 77F/25C you are going to want A/C.
I was there in June which is a few degrees cooler and I was very thankful for the A/C in my room.
I had dinner at the restaurant at the Emerson on the top floor and the stairs are very steep & narrow but the view made up for it.
Loved getting lost in the meandering streets of old Stone Town and if you get the chance catch the sunset from the Sunset bar at the Africa House Hotel where Livingstone used to hang out. Get there early tho as it's very popular.
