Yellow Fever shot -Tanzania
On another post or two, I saw that depending upon one's age, immune system, etc. a letter from your doctor stating that it was not advisable to have the YF shot would do. Anyone know more or have any experience with this. My husband and I both have that letter. We will becoming in to Tanzania from Kenya, the Masai Mara.

Will you being traveling with the guidance of a tour operator rather than independently? If so, I suggest you have a conversation with your company representative as they'll certainly have the widest experience and most up to date information. Forums are a good place for most information but I wouldn't want to bet my trip on it, no offense intended to those with personal experience.

Believe it or not, you'd be surprised how many operators don't have answers to some of these questions. If they did, such info would be included to travelers upon their booking.
I happen to know for my own travels over 18/yrs as these countries keep changing rules, so based on current rules/regs, the OP will be fine with the letters. That's what I now carry and since I have... never been questioned on entry either Tanzania or back to Kenya, where the latter is cracking down on those entering in the opposite direction (except if flying direct into NBO international airport for one's homebound flight).

Sandi, I'm sure you're right. But it would be useful to the OP to have a link to some official rule on the issue even though these things can change overnight as we know. Do you know a govt website that confirms your experience?

Both the CDC and WHO say the YF inoc is not required.
However, each country decides for themselves what is required and in this instance, Tanzania requires those entering from endemic countries or thru them. So those are the rules. Yet many arriving even from western countries are asked for proof, so you either have such proof or the waiver. On arrival is not the time to argue with an agent allowing (or not) entry to their country.
As to the 'waiver' it's indicated on the site (either CDC of WHO... don't ask me to locate it), that such can be provided, either on the Yellow card or docs letterhead, if the traveler fits any of the categories 'why not.' Can be allergy to eggs, egg products, age, contraindications with other meds, pregnant, etc. There are hundreds of threads on this subject here on Fodor's and Trip Adviser... try a search.
