Went to Rwanda with R&N Xplorer? Any Guide Recs? And Misc. Mara Q's

Jump to last reply

I remember distinctly that a poster here had a guide she did NOT recommend. I know R&N subcontracts to Mercator in Rwanda. Did you have a friendly, relaxed, safe-driving guide? If so, what was his (her???) name?

I'm also still dithering about where to stay in the Mara. My visit is not during the migration, so I won't be seeking crossing points. For some reason this area just mystifies me. There seem to be conflicting ideas about where is a "good" place to stay: in the reserve, on a conservancy, the Triangle, the Confluence, MNC, Olare Orok, etc. I'm looking for lots of wildlife, esp. cats, and few people, a location that feels un-manicured, unfenced, unfamiliar. Or am I over-thinking this and it just doesn't matter all that much off-season?
