Visa

I know this has been touched upon a lot. However, my question is a bit different. I will be spending the night in Jo Burg, flying to Zim then to Bots then back to Jo Burg to connect to a flight to the states. The second time in I will be 'IN-TRANSIT". My question is, does the old two-blank passport page requirement apply for those that have a visitors permit already and who are just in transit at the airport for a few hours.

Thanks

Since you will be spending o/n in JNB, leaving the secured "in-transit" lounge/area, you require a visa, so 2 face-to-face pages is what you need. If you weren't overnighting in JNB; remaining in the airport's "transit lounge" you wouldn't have to concern yourself.

If you don't have 2-face-to-face blank pages, it's time to get additional pages in your passport, especially if you have years before expiration. Otherwise, it's new passport time. And now that all travelers need to have passports (but for a few places in the Caribbean), it's taking longer for processing.

Thanks Sandi. I have the 2 blank pages and my connectiing flight is several hours later. Have you ever left SA and then had to return several days later from another country via air to connect to another flight that same day in that same airport? Sorry to be confusing, just stressing out here.

I think you're going to need those two pages for SA, but then what about Zimbabwe's visa? It sounds like you should get new pages!

are you asking if you need 4 pages?

i have done exactly what you describe, except botswana/zambia, not zimbabwe, (which, frankly, you may want to think given the recent headlines). the visa they affix to your passport the first time is all you need...if you are from a country that has visa upon arrival.

Kerikeri, so you had done the two passes through SA? One where you get the intial stamp and then in-transit to get on a plane at JNB airport? Did they require that you had two pages when you return the second time even though you were in transit?

Once you have the SA Visitors permit (as mine shows), it's good for about 3/months. As JNB is a hub airport, I'm sure people transit here regularly; also sure they don't get a permit each time passing through, as long as the initial permit is valid. So, I'd say, you DO NOT require another 2/pages for another permit.

I have done this many times. They will put an additional temporary residence permit in your passport regardless of whether or not the previous one is valid

How is the international terminal at JNB set up?

I'm assuming if your luggage is through checked to your final desination and you're just connecting from one international flight to another international flight on the same day, you don't pass by immigration at all, right? Is there an airside transfer desk if you simply need to pick up your onward boarding pass?
