Tanzania -

I am in the beginning stages of planning a trip to Tanzania and/or Kenya next year. Would like to go for about 2 weeks with an additional week at a beach resort (Zanzibar perhaps). Our proirity is game viewing and I would like suggestions on when the best time to go would be. I was thinking of Oct or Nov. Are these good months?

I would like to suggest that if it's beach you want, Zanzibar would be a downer. Altho Zanzibar IS excellent for history, the Arab influence, and the excellent traditions (the language has its best expression in Zanzibar). My most spectacular vacation site ever (I mean, of all time) is Malindi, Kenya. Take the train overnite from Nairobi to Mombasa, real romatic ya know, and just get a matatu (safe!) to Malindi. Then you might want to go up the coast and explore Lamu. I've been there 4 times and I still want to go back. It's heaven.

Thank you for your suggestion, Malindi looks wonderful. We are planning to go on safari for 2 weeks but would like to rest and relax before heading home to Vancouver, Canada.
Still trying to find out when a good time to go is(for game viewing). Our schedule is very flexible

Hi Anita
if u scan through different threads u'll find lots of info.
putting iut shortly - if it is MIGRATION u'd like to c:
# Mara (Kenya) best time mid july to mid october. Take september to b on the safe side (july august also more pached usually)
# Serengeti(TZ)
I. mobile camp is an excellent idea as it is erected in migration area.
II. ordinary lodges:maybe it is most convinient february to april when herds r in the south east open area.
from mid february onwards to march CALVING SEASON a great show !! stay at Ndutu or alternatives .
of course there r other options in Serengeti incl. private concessions
aby
PS even without seeing migration it is certainly an awesome experience

Hi Anita:
Have you looked at trip reports in the East Africa Index? There are Oct and Nov trips to read about.

Thanks, I have read all the wonderful East Africa trip reports thus my confusion on when is a good time to go. It seems that everyone has an amazing time no matter when they go. I am making all the plans so I just want to make sure that we go when the game viewing is good. Most likely will go to Tanzania as it seems like a good choice for safari "first timers".
