We are going to meet with a small group in mid-April to see Jordan and Israel. Our flight back was cancelled and rebooked two days later than everyone else. What are your top suggestions for Jordan? We will already have seen Petra and Mount Nebo and some of Amman. I will be focusing on photography and my husband his love of history and biblical events. I am thinking of visiting Jerash at least. I am planning a trip to Jordan later this year, if photography interests you, I think Wadi Rum maybe of interest to you.

Besides Jerash which is wonderful, there are some other sites farther north of here that might be of interest... also old ruins. Sorry, I don't have names as my Jordan guidebook seems to have disappeared. Pop into your local bookstore and check a Jordan guidebook for details. Even in Amman proper, the northern area which is rather modern and upscale, can be interesting to explore.

Thanks PJames for the Wadi Rum suggestion. I was wondering if it would be worth the time to go, since we have limited time.
Thanks Sandi for the affirmation of Jerash and the suggestion of other northern places--I'll check them out.
And Elizabeth--that is quite a blog with photos which I will go to several times! Great photos which are serving to whet our travel appetites. Were the horses in Petra calm enough that I could carry my expensive camera around my neck ready to shoot, with a camera backpack on also? (I am a healthy 61.)

We didn't ride the horses - they seem to be on the path into the Siq. We rode the donkeys up to the Monastery and while my husband didn't get great shots, he did keep his camera around his neck with a backpack on as well. The camels were fun (and calm) too!

Jerash was one of my favourite sites in Jordan, I would recommend a visit without hesitation.

We also enjoyed the scenery of Wadi Rum.

The beach resort of Aqaba did nothing for us.

Floating in the dead sea was kind of fun but I don't know that I'd do the trip down there unless I was already passing nearby.

Thanks, Elizabeth for your reply. I think I'll be okay with my camera around my neck. However, my first ride on a camel in the Moroccan desert scared me a bit with the ups and downs of the dunes. I held on tightly!
Thanks, too, Kavey for your suggestions. We'll probably skip the Dead Sea as we'll visit it for quite awhile in Israel. But it sounds like Wadi Rum is worth it for camera lovers like me! And Jerash is a definite.

Some of our most beautiful pictures are in Jarash. You definetly should go there! It's also easy to go on a bus from the bus station.

You may also want to go to the hot springs called hamamat maeen.
