Solo Female traveler in Dubai
Hello,
I will be in Dubai in transit for a day in Feb 07. My Emirates flight arrives early in the morning and my flight back to the U.S. does not leave till late in the evning. I would love to do a day-long Desert Safari offered by local operators there. Is this appropriate to do in Dubai for a solo female traveler?

Go onto the Emirates Air website. You'll find a wealth of information as to "What's To Do" - where, costs, etc. And, if on a US passport, you're allowed a free visa for about 72/hrs.
I don't have/know specifics about the Desert Safari, but I believe there was a recent posting on this board about it. Do a search on this board, use the box on the top of this page, enter "Dubai" or "Desert Safari" (without the "" then click the search button on the right. Threads will appear in the left column. Then read through them.
As far as being a solo female traveler, whether for this activity or others, there shouldn't be any problem. Dubai is a very western city and should be as safe as any other modern city; of course, always using common sense.

If you are North American you will get a visa stamp on a arrival. There are lots of local tour operators for desert safaris and you will not have a problem as a single women.
Arabian Adventures, Desert Rangers, East Adventures, Voyagers Xtreme... just to name a few.
Have fun, the weather's just about prefect in the winter.

Hi,
We visit Dubai a lot (we live in Saudi)and you will be safe and have a great time! Check out Arabian-Adventures their website is www.arabian-adventures.com We did a fabulous afternoon/evening 4 wheeldrive dinner thing and even rode camels part of the way. They have lots of different packages so hopefully you will find something to tickle your fancy and fit in with your schedule. Shopping at the Mall of the Emirates is pretty fun too if you have some spare time - it's the one with the indoor ski hill. If you are interested in ethnic kinds of things (beaded shawls, handicrafts etc.)go to the Al Karama shopping center - they are also full of knock-offs - mostly purses - if you are interested in that sort of thing. The Grand Hyatt Hotel is really close to the airport (5 minutes by taxi) and you can always relax there - they have nice restaurants, spa and hair salon too. There are loads of taxis all over and Dubai is very modern and friendly. Good luck and have fun!
