Self drive safari Tanzania

We are planning to do a 20 days safari this summer in Tanzania and probably northern Mozambique. According to the experience of some friends who did it two years ago we are not afraid for selfdriving in Africa as we have done before in different countries in West Africa. Currently my concern is to find a proper Car rental Agency providing cars in good conditions in Dar es Salaam, accepting self driving and offering reasonable prices. After checking many different companies we are almost decided to choose www.lakelandafrica.com They offer us a Land Cruiser year 2009 for 130 USD day, including all taxes, insurance and 150 kms per day. They seem to be very professional and also provide good tips about the roads, campings, accommodation. Does anybody knows this company? Does anybody knows a reliable company in Dar es Salaam renting self drive 4x4? I would appreciate any info. Thanks a lot

Hi, me and my wife tried them last December. We did the Northern circuit during 15 days, driving from Dar and coming Back. We rented a Rav4 -kind of Suv from Toyota- and the car did the job with no problems. After checking for a while lakeland was the best option and quite clear on terms of agreement. They give us a price with everything included and there was not any surprise, either at the beginning or the end. The staff, as you already said, is very friendly and provide good info about routes and even accommodation. We had a good experience with them and amazing with the Tanzanian Nature. Hope you enjoy as well. Regards

You may also try Fortes Safaris, i think they have an office in Dar i don't have information about lake land safaris, but they seem to be also good.

Try to avoid Fortes. We've booked the car rental with driver in June and sadly, after paying nearly $5000 it was the worst experience ever. I'm traveling a lot, almost every month, I've been on every continent and dozens of countries and never been treated this way. It mostly the driver´s fault, an older man who was trying to show all the time that he's a boss and achieve to ruin our vacations. I've returned 2 months later, renting the car with other company and had a great time.

All the companies are offering almost the same, wher there is a Lion spotted the drives are calling or messaging each other and You'll see the same animal paying let say $900 or $2000 for 6 days and visiting the same places and national parks. The difference makes the driver, not the price.
