Seeking Info: Traveling Tanzania
Could anyone help answering the following? <BR>-Approx. costs for flying from Dar Es Salaam to Ngorongoro Crater...from Kilimanjaro to Zanzibar? <BR>-What to expect from a climb on Mt. Meru. Do we need our own equipment or are there climb groups available that provide it? Are there lodges enroute or should we expect to camp? <BR>-Recommended beach hotels on Zanzibar (upto $125/night). <BR>-Are iodine tablets necessary or is bottled water available? <BR>I welcome any advice, recommendations or feedback regarding travel in Tanzania. <BR>Thank you! <BR>JLH

You might want to try sending an e-mail to [email protected] to get the information you need. I used them to book my trip to Tanzania recently. They're the travel/tour section of Coastal Air which hass both regular and chartered flights around Tanzania. They can also book you into any hotel, lodge or camp site you want. The person I used over there was Nahid and she was really nice and very helpful. There is bottled water everywhere but my husband I thought that the best tasting one was labeled Kilimanjaro which we got when we were up north in the Kilimanjaro area.

We were in Zanzibar and did a safari from Arusha in Dec. 1998. I can't remember the costs but we flew from Dar Es Salaam to Kilimanjaro on Tanzania Air, which I don't know that I would recommend. The plane shook terribly and a bunch of the air masks fell down on take off and landing. We took a ferry to Zanzibar. I know that KLM flies on certain days from Dar. to Kil. <BR> <BR>We stayed in Stone Town on Zanzibar for a few days, and then headed north and stayed at Ras Nungwi, which I don't know that I would recommend. I found them on the internet. They advertised that they didn't have air-conditioning, which I didn't expect, but they did say that they had ceiling fans in each room. I figured this along with the night air off the ocean would be acceptable. However, they didn't mention that they get power from a generator and that the generator (and fan) go off at midnight. So at about 12:30 everynight, I was wide awake sweating profusely. Plus the beds were situated in such a way in the room that the cross breeze coming through never even reached us. Tried to move the bed, but couldn't move the mosquito net!! UGH. We were supposed to stay for 7 nights, but cut it short a night or two and headed back to Stone Town for an airconditioned room!! <BR> <BR>I found bottled water readily available everywhere we went. Wasn't a problem. <BR> <BR>If you have any other questions, feel free. It was one of the best trips we have ever done.
