Safari in North Tanzania

I think I've now narrowed down our tour to either Roy's Safaris or Access 2 Tanzania. Does anyone have experience with one of these companies that was not good?

Both are outstanding outfitters with Roy's being in business about 25/yrs and A2T about 10/yrs. If there are any negatives about either, these would be one-off and not much with which to concern yourself. More than likely it was the traveler and not the outfitter.

Are you alone or with friends? There are other companies offer better rates than the two company you have mentioned and their services are amazing.

I did in Feb 2011 three week TZ safari with Roys. There were 6 of us photographers and three of us (not me) were return customers of Roys. We had three vehicles so only two photographers per vehicle. Everyone of us was most happy with Roys. Roys is also used by other photographic tour guides. BUT if you're not into photography, there are probably other acceptable, and less $$$, tour operators. (And you're likely sharing a vehicle with 5 or more people).

regards - tom

Roys and A2T are both priced about the same.

Sorry, no experience with those companies, but I can recommend another one (not to make your research tougher . We used Tanzania Odyssey this year for safari and Zanzibar and they were wonderful. Everything went perfectly - no problems with flights, ground transfers, etc. Here's our blog post about the safari if you'd like to take a peek, http://latitudeb.com/serengeti-safari/.

I went with A2T in February. A rather long and detailed trip report of our experience is on here, if you click my name you'll find it. I highly recommend them and would go with them again in a heartbeat if my destination is TZ. I spoke to most of the major names in TZ when preparing for the trip but came away with the best customer service and value for the money from A2T.

Well, we decided on A2Z and sent them our deposit today. Thanks everyone for the comments. Loribarber1 I enjoyed your blog. Amyb I really enjoyed your trip report. I think we've made a good choice for us with A2Z and we have really enjoyed working with Karen so far. The hardest part will be waiting til next June 2014 to head to Africa although we leave in 3 weeks for an extended driving/camping trip to the northwest with the highlight being a week with Ocean Adventures in the Great Bear Rainforest in Canada looking for Spirit Bears! Thanks again everyone.

So happy for you, PH! I think you'll really enjoy it and your experience with Karen is indicative of how well run it'll be going forward. Good luck and keep us posted as you plan! You have a great trip to keep you busy in the meantime. Just be prepared, once you go to Africa, you'll be bitten by the bug. I've already booked my return! ;-)
