Ripped Off by Tanzanian company JABIR Tours & Safaris

After lengthy email exchanges we paid Jabir Ally (Ali) of JABIR TOURS & SAFARIS, based in Zanzibar, the deposit for our tanzanian safari. Shortly after we sent the money to his account, we received an email saying he had sent our money as requested to Uganda to feed orphans and could we send more money please.
We investigated and then asked for the (small) remainder of the money he had supposedly NOT sent to Uganda be returned to us, but NO he said, it was against his policy to refund money. This man, Jabir Ali, conned us completely, despite my having contacted referees who had used his services previously.

STAY AWAY.

Another tour agency I requested a quote from, STANLEY & STOPPER, sent me an email attempting to extort money from us for a sick sister or someone, after I told them we would not be going with them.
Bunch of sharks out there...
If anyone would like more information about this, I am happy to provide details.
cheers

Contact the Tanzania Association of Tour Operators at www.tatotz.org and see if Jabir is a member. Also you might have more replies if you post on Trip Advisor Travel Forum.

Well I am sure sorry to hear that.

That is one of the fears that people have when they book a Safari a local company........ and yet

Local companies are very good when you get one that isn't scamming you.

I did all my bookings with a company in Arusha Tanzania,it was all on short term notice and I cannot say enough good things about the way they treated us throughout the while Safari.

A very garbled and rambling comment by Janelaly. I doubt you are Scottish based on your use of English....

I found some postive reviews of JABIR using google

Someone from the UK

"Just yesterday we went to view dolphin tours in a sharing boat, we were amazed by the great people in Jabir Tours and Safari , the staff were very helpfully and jolly, we had delicious lunch after playing with social dolphin, the second day we visited Jabir family for cooking class, we were group of five, it was fun, we learnt the culture of Zanzibar in the village.Steven was the captain in this company just if it was a ship, he guided everything but in ateam work, they made us trust them easily, friendly, friendly people. "Me and my 3 friends were down in Tanzania. Our Safari was extra enjoyable despite the fact that we chose a budget or camping thing."

& from CA
"I was always wondering seeing wild life on adventure TV series not until i turned to the reality show. I have a list of things that i have to do with my life and now i have this trip and Jabir tours and Safaris to thank for.

Serengeti and the crater are the key parties that never will i forget in my memory."
