My new Canon 40-D is arriving today, thanks to the Canon rebate program and all the great advice on this forum... now I need some memory cards. I've heard the high speed is the way to go but I'm not sure if there are some brands that are better than others. I hope I'll see another Sandisk rebate come through soon though.

The San Disk rebate is alive and well. I just bought 2 Extreme III 16gb from Adorama for about $100 each after rebate. I also bought 2 Extreme III 8gb for about $50 each after rebate. There are also rebates on Extreme IV but I am happy with the price/performance of Extreme III.

Has anyone tried to use a San Disk Extreme III 4G, 8G, or 16G card with an Epson storage device/viewer? The official Epson literature does not list any Extreme III cards as compatible, but my Epson 3000 works with my Extreme III 2G card. I'd like to buy a couple of bigger cards, but I'm concerned they won't be compatible with my Epson 3000. Any relevant experience?

which lists the write speed achieved with various cards. Any of the 133x/Extreme III level cards will max out the camera. Anything faster will not enable faster write speeds, but will get you faster downloading with a fast card reader.

isabel25, If you are talking about compact flash cards of those capacities, they all will work with the Epson P3000. There were some problems with SD cards but I beleive a recent update fixed the problem. A subtle bit of information from Rob Galbraith's site is that as the size of any of these cards increase, the write speed decreases. In other words, for any given capacity, a 2GB card will write (or can be written to) faster than a 16GB card. This is a general rule but their are several exceptions. I prefer to use a lot of 4GB cards just because I then have fewer images at risk of corruption then with an 8 or 16GB card. That said, I have never had a card go bad so I'm probably overcautious. As the newer cameras evolve, their hudge megapixel sensors and the giant files they create will probably mean the future will be in 4GB cards or bigger. Hard to beleive I paid $100 for 1/2 GB just a couple of years ago.

I have an epson p5000 and the San Disk Extreme III 4GB and 8GB and it works fine and downloads are quite fast.

Just another quick thought-format your cards in the camera and don't individual files on the Epson and then attempt to reuse in camera. Many of the hard core PSD users claim this is courting disaster. In other words copy to the Epson and after the copy is complete, delete any unwanted images from the Epson's hard drive. Then, reformat the card in the camera. You may already know all of this but if not, it might save a lot of grief down the road.
