New York to Cairo

Flying from New York to Cairo on Egypt Air, what is the seat configuration in coach class? (i.e., 2/5/2, 3/2/3, etc.)

Also, do they allow advance seat reservations? If not, when are seats assigned?

Thanks very much.

Seatguru.com has plane configurations for many airlines, however, it does not have them for EgyptAir.

Egypt Air uses 777-200 on the JFK non-stop. It has an unusual 3-4-2 configuration in coach, according to the plan on www.egyptair.com.eg

When we flew that route 4 years ago it was on a fairly new 777. Seating was 2-5-2. We had assigned seats when we got our tickets (paper tickets back then), but flight was about 2/3 full. Flight attendants moved people around to give everyone as much space as possible - no moving yourself/switching seats was permitted.

At the time there was a "cockpit cam" that they turned on on departure and landgin so you could see the ground, city, runway. It creeped me out but the kids thought it was great.

Thank you for your replies. I also heard from another site today, and they mentioned 3/5/3 - not much room for comfort there, except if there are empty seats to move around to.

But seat assignments are not made until check-in. So I guess the best bet is to just get there early.

It cannot be 3-5-3. No airline can put 11 seats across in a 777, though some do put 3-4-3. But either it's 3-4-2 as I found out from Egyptair or another 777 fansite, or as gail says 2-5-2, it's still 9-across.

From what I'm reading, no personal video screen, but they do have the exterior camera that gail mentioned.

Thanks for the clarification, rkkwan. I respect your opinion.

My other source today was Gate 1 Travel, but I'd guess whoever answered my email was incorrect. It did seem quite crowded to me. I would prefer the 3-4-2 as you mentioned. I just dread the thought of going 3 across on a long flight like that.

Of course, my other alternative is to use my FF miles, fly AA to Zurich, then switch to Swiss over to Cairo. At least that way I'd get to pre-reserve my (hopefully) exit row seats. And they're only 2 on the sides.

But the price sure is right from NY with Egypt Air. Decisions..decisions..

Thanks again!

Just of interest Emirates also have those 'cams', quite interesting especially at night to see the distant runway lights appear and slowly get closer, but of course the closer you get it all appears to 'speed up' and before you know it you've landed, fascinating to watch.
