new safari plan Mid March 2010

Last year (Januaray) we had an extraordinay safari with Kiliwarriors. we are planning another trip to Africa coming up soon....Mid March. Naturally since we had such an excellent experience with Kiliwarriors last year we are checking with them. However; being in the travel industry myself I have learned it doesn't hurt to ask around. Maybe someone will offfer advice I had never thought of for this time frame. We know it is almost a sure thing if we go back to the same areas Ndutu for example we most likely will see what we are hoping for. I am asking now for advice on your favorite operator and why? Aso alternate destinations in Africa for this time-frame.......or since our time-frame is not set in stone iif someone has an altogether Africa destination to tell me about. we are looking to stay mostly in tent camps; and we are interested in money-saving tips but are still more or less determined to stay in tent camps, rather than lodgees. But; who knows.... maybe we will even change our minds on this if it saves us a bundle. We did 21 days with Killiwarriors in tent camps last year so we are not uninformed as to their approximate cost. We have only made the one safari mentioned above. Thanks very much to anyone with some info I might like to know about.

Mid March can be tricky. I think Kiliwarriors does a tented Serengeti trip early March, but that may be similar to what you just did. I think that's where I'd like to go & what I'd like to do if I were traveling in March. I also don't think KW even does trips to Southern Africa.

Check out this link for best wildlife viewing across Africa.

If not the Southern Serengeti, I think I'd like to try the Okavango Delta in Botswana in March. Kwara and Little Kwara get good reviews throughout the year. My fav Botswana camp is Duba Plains for the lion-buffalo interactions, so I'd probably add that. Then March is a good time for the Kalahari. That would just about be the trip.

For Southern Africa I've used Africa Adventure and Eyes on Africa and all worked perfectly. Booking camps (and the guides at those camps) through an agent is a different setup than using the guide and vehicle and perhaps mobile camp provided by the agent, which would have been more like your previous KW trip. For Botswana it is more of a price issue and making sure the agent gets the bookings right, once you know what you wish to do.

$-saving tips: There may be some deals in Botswana in March because it is not their high season and the offers that have been available, such as book 3 nts and stay 4, may continue. Can't hurt to ask. Also if you are comfortable paying in cash and not charging, that can knock off a few dollars from the trip.

davgai,

as you know, the migrations may have moved NW of the ndutu area by late march. but, it still should be a good area.

atravelynn was discussing the discounts at wilderness safaris. the special is stay3pay2 and is valid until march 15 at every camp in botswana except abu and mombo.

here is another thought. i just met with a zimbabwean guy named dave carson. he came to our MN office from the nolting's office in florida. the nolting's own the Africa Adventure Company that lynn frequently mentions. dave has an interesting business running luxury and moderate priced mobiles in the moremi, savute, chobe, hwange, and mana pools. his bio is on the web site atravelynn mentioned above. you need four people min for their botswana program and two for their zimbabwe program. it looks really good compared to other mobile program i have ever considered.

Davgai1,

As to how many days is too much--if you enjoyed your 21 days on the last trip, then I'm sure you'd enjoy additional days in Tanzania, perhaps some different locations. Because it's nature, it's never the same, even at the same locations. That would go for Botswana too.
