Namibia in June or July?
Hello!
I am very interested in a tour in Namibia but don't know whether to book it in early June or late July.
It will cover the Namib desert, Swakopmund, Skeleton Coast, Etosha and Okonjima.
I would appreciate very much your help as this will be my 1st time in Southern Africa (and my first safari)
Teresa

Tere,
I was in Namibia last July-August and found it a good time to travel. The weather in Swakopmund was patchy - very cool in the morning increasing to 16-17 C during the day.
Inland, it was a good time to travel and I will return there in July-August next year.
BTW, I live in a cool climate, where 16-17 is short sleeve weather.
Cheers,
Pol.

Hi Teresa,
As others have stated there will be little difference in general with the weather between June and July.
We have done 2 trips in and around Namibia over the last number of yrs. with the most recent being in June of '06.
Something that you may want to check into is whether the rates at various accommodations will differ for those months.
On our first trip we booked in July which was considered high season and there was a noticeable difference in rates between July and June.
This last trip we went with June to get better pricing and it worked well. Don't know if this is still the case with various rates depending on the season, but I would make an inquiry.
It is an amazing country and I'm sure you will enjoy your time there.

That's a good point, I noticed for example that car hire rates were approx 56 US dollars per day until end June then 75 dollars from July, (current exchange rates), that's quite a difference. DJE is right, accommodation also tends to go into high season in July.
