Nairobi Hotel

Has anyone stayed at the Jamiat Hotel in Nairobi? I will be there at the end of December/beginning of January and the rate given was 7100KSH per night for triple. I appreciate any info you can provide or any suggestions in around the same budget. Thanks.

Hello eljay2,
I haven’t stayed at the Jamiat, but I’ve seen their sign and it’s very central and inside a shopping centre. On there website it says that they have a no-alcohol policy – in case that would be a problem.

The Terminal is 2000 shillings for a triple, but it doesn’t have the kind of facilities that the Jamiat has and it’s probably not as clean, as the cleaner on the 3rd floor – where I usually stay - is very busy with other things.

You could have a look at the Kenya Comfort http://www.kenyacomfort.com/ or the Oakwood http://www.oakwoodhotelnairobi.com/

I haven’t read about anyone staying at the Jamiat, so it would be nice if you wrote a report.

Thanks Nyamera.

I stayed at the Comfort Hotel in 2005 when I was in Kenya. My room was over ridden with cockroaches. These creatures don't bother me but on this trip I am traveling with my 13 year old niece and my 13 year old cousin. It is their first visit to a developing country and I'd like to use their first night to ease them into a different culture and getting a good night sleep. I am not interested in staying at a luxury hotel and the Jamiat looked like it might be the in-between. The following day we will be traveling to a village where they will spend 10 days experiencing rural life.

I will be sure to post a review when I get back in January.

Eljay2, I haven’t stayed at the Kenya Comfort, but from what I’ve heard, I thought it would be very clean. Though if guests leave foodstuffs lying about there will be cockroaches anyway, even at the Jamiat I suppose. Try distracting the kids when switching on the light in a dark room … As for a good nights sleep, there’s a risk you’ll be waken up at 5am. The Jamiat is right next to Jamia mosque. It’s very brave of you to be travelling with 13-year olds. It’s not my favourite age, but I might be prejudiced.
I’m looking forward to your report.
Safari njema.

If you are only in transit en route to your safari - you can stay in the Aero Club next to Wilson airport. It's clean, neat, nice and cheap!!!

I took up a day room to shower and change after my international flight and prior to safari.
