Naboisho Camp- Sister camp to Rekero

Hello-

I just learned of a new conservancy called the Mara Naboisho Conservancy. They are about an hours drive from Rekero. Has anyone stayed here yet? I think they only just opened in December.

Also, I can't remember- does Rekero provide a private guide/vehicle?

Thanks in advance

I just dug around more online and found Naboisho won't open until June 2011. Sorry!

Naboisho is a new 50,000 acre conservancy to the East of the Mara Game Reserve, with Koiyaki Guide School being the focal point. It is being exclusively leased by 5 tourism partners. Naboisho Camp, a seasonal ecocamp opens on June 1st.

I noticed this recently too, and seriously considered staying there, but decided to head to Laikipia instead. I don't think any camps there are open yet but it sounds like a very worthy project. The other camps-to-be may have something too, but I know Kicheche camps, one of the "partners", have quite a lot of detail about the conservancy up on their web site (kicheche.com). Here is what they say about wildlife for example.

"The diverse habitat supports a wide range of wildlife documented by resident researchers. The highest population of giraffe in the Mara are found in Naboisho, elephant herds frequent the area, 3 prides totalling 35 lions have been identified and three prides of another 30-35 lions move between the conservancy and Ol kinyei, Bardamat hills and the northern plains. Five leopard and three cheetah have also been identified by researchers. A large hippo pod and crocodiles occupy the hippo pool on the Enniskeria river. Eland and Buffalo visit the conservancy particularly during the wet season. Antelopes including, impala, topi, hartebeest, and Thompson gazelles are resident most of the year. Rare species such as Aardvark, caracal, serval cat, Aardwolf and Wild Dog are occasionally found and a black rhino appears from time to time. Naboisho is a bird watchers paradise, several bird species rarely seen elsewhere in the Mara such as white headed buffalo weavers, northern white-crowned shrike, pigmy falcon, Von-der Deckens hornbills, bush pipits are commonly seen."

To be taken with a pinch of salt (although it doesn't sound exaggerated to me). Doesn't really answer your question, but that and the rest of their write up may be of interest to you and others.

Note: oops.... I didn't mean to make an active link to the Kicheche web site.
