My Moms safari notes-be prepared for anything!
My mom (76) is on safari right now and just posted this note on FB
"Can you believe - it almost snowed today here in Kenya. We hit a huge storm with hail 1 inch in diameter and the ground and roads were covered, We were driving in very heavy traffic and it was like black ice. needless to say, we were scared, the driver finally had to stop as the big trucks were swaying all over the road and we could not see, the defroster was not working, we were wiping the windshield with someone's scarf, What an afternoon. Finally back in Nairobi, nice hotel. We have had gread safari's so far, have seen all of the Big Five and many, many more. Tomorrow we leave here for another lodge and then on to Tanzania. Having a great time. Weather has been cold, dry, hot ,, cold and pleasant. We are at the equator. but the hail was highly unusual, in fact Very Rare. I am still shaking from that trip."
So weather wise, in late October, be prepared for anything!

Hail on safari is good luck. Oddly I had hail in mid-Sept in the Serengti. The guide could not remember the last time he had experienced hail.
Not surprised about the lack of a defroster. Using someone's scarf is a great safari tale.
"Manner from heaven" is even a better term for it than good luck.
You can tell your mom she has a following.

I am happy to hear she is home.I know she has recorded the days events in her books of record and hope she proposes this to be a new wonder of the world.
Wish you and your mom well.
