moderately priced Okavango ? and info about the "Pan Handle"
Hi
as anybody been to some Pan Handle lodges? i wonder how is the experience like in places like Shakawe, Ndhovu
according to the web info they have no Mokoro activities, but is going by bigger boat still gives a feeling of the Delta ? is there some smaller water channels around or is it simply a wide river (not-yet-delta) as the name "panhandle" imply?
Has anybody been to Nxamaseri ? how is it over there (it seems to be the only place on the pan handle to have mokoro experience)
How is the Divava area like?
If i do reach Maun - Is there any moderately priced property on that side?
i'll appreciate very much any info

Aby,
Nxamaseri is a fishing and birding lodge on a channel a couple of kms connecting with the main Okavango river. Most years you can use a mokoro, this year the water is very deep, but mokoro poles are long. In late March this year we had the river to ourselves, and did not see another boat. Fishing was poor, but the area beautiful.
I have been there about a dozen times in the last ten years. The camp has seven chalets of simple design, and is currently run by a lovely South African couple. The staff are all locals and I have known them for years. Three nights there would probably be enough if you don't fish. But I beg you to try. I used to just sit and watch, but now my largest barbel is 17lb and tigerfish 10lb. I have also caught a few lovely nemwe[ bream].
It makes a nice end to a safari. But I have been on safari many times, and if you are new to Africa you might not like to 'waste' days of animal watching when you can fish in most parts of the world.
I hope this helps,
Jan

Aby,
I like the sound of Xaro Lodge http://www.afrizim.com/Places/Botswa...andle/Xaro.asp. Competitive pricing at $54 US (room only) per night according to the website.
Xaro has links with Drotsky's Cabins which are further north,

Cheers,
Pol
