Masai Mara exclusively 9 nites
Am I crazy? I know, I know we'd be missing a lot but then we sure would be getting a lot of "the best". I am curious to see if anyone other then a tour operator or agent would agree. It takes a week to settle into the daily rhythm of a place . You never get that if your grabbing your bag every 2 or 3 days.

We spent 10 nights in the Mara last year, and it was fabulous.
We stayed at Serian Camp but that allowed us to spent 3 nights in the main camp, 2 at one mobile camp, 2 at the other and another 3 back at main camp.
Next time, we'd do 5 at the main camp and 5 at the favourite mobile camp, though as we did it was fine too.
We didn't get bored of the Mara, it was fabulous.

I spent 10 nights in the Mara in 2006 - not a dull moment ever. In retrospect, it may have been better to break that stay into 2 Mara camps (we spent all our time at Kicheche), but I didn't know better and had a wonderful time anyway.
I think each person has their own travel style - some like it hectic & want to see as much as time and funds will allow, whereas others like it laid back & are happy with whatever they see. If you fall into the latter category, go for it. The Mara is a jewel and each day will bring its own pleasures.

Believe important question is whether when those who spent extended stay in the Mara were on their first safari, or a return visit.
Certainly great to be able to spend 4-5/nts on a first safari in the Mara, but there are also other places as Samburu for elephants or the highlands in the Rift Valley; areas with unique environments and often game not found in the Mara. Where, if time allows you can spend 3-4/nts each at any of these, also.

9 nights is good. I'm with Kavey, staying at Serian meant getting the long stay discounts but allows more than one location. Probably other operators may have similar setups, I don't know. But there is always something happening in the Mara.
