Leopard Kills Grey Duiker LIVE on WildEarth.tv
For those of you who don't know there is a website called WildEarth.tv that broadcasts 2 live game drives daily from the Djuma game reserve. The feed has been continually upgraded and is now broadcast on a flash system giving pretty amazing live video. Its not perfect but really, really good. Well after watching 3 different leopards feeding off an impala for a couple of days the crew had an amazing sighting.
They watched the "Safari" leopard stalk and kill a grey duiker in front of them. You can watch it on their you tube feed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaqW7xDzlJg
There are three parts to this and the footage is very good. I would suspect viewing the next day or two will be great with the leopard feeding on the carcass.
You will also find that the presenters, Pieter Pretorious and Rexon are excellent yet very different in style.
If you don't like the quality of the video you have my permission to blame the messenger for wasting your time
Regards,
Eric

today i returned to watch the clip.........gosh
on one hand that's one of the reasons to do a safari. on the other it's difficult to observe.
hope PD is coming over and can tell us whether it's normal that a leopard needs so long to kill a duiker. the struggle for life took almost 8 min.......
couldn't stop my eyes getting wet

It's ok. But I would have choked that talky guide. He could not keep quiet for 5 seconds. Anybody who needs it explained to them like on this video should not be allowed on a game drive. Have they never seen an African wildlife program on TV???
I have a video of a leopard killing a male impala at Kings Camp. At the beginning the guide started to say "you see now the leopard strangles..." Two of us said "sssshhhh" to shut him up. A minute later he wanted to talk again, we ssshhed him again. He stayed quiet. These things in real life are best observed in silence, hearing only nature. IMHO.

Sorry.
Next time I'll limit my response to two short sentences.
And before someone replies - "Hey Tom, why don't you put your wonderful video up for us". I won't put it on youtube for youtube to destroy its quality. (Image quality is not so good to begin with, it was at night). Somewhere else, maybe?

Most people who watch Wildearth TV will never get to Africa. Some people might think the commentator should be quieter while others might like to hear what he has to say. The video speaks for itself as to what happened. Clearly the commentator, whose name is Rexon, was excited by what he was seeing and his commentary reflects that. Its not worth being critical of him when this is really about the leopard and the poor duiker.

On further reflection, I realized that this video was NOT from a game drive but a roving reporter kind of thing. For this type of thing some narration is required especially since you are not watching it on a big color TV where the action is obvious.

ps - Two sentences like I said. But not short ones
